She has a great deal of preteen-itis and is dissatisfied with many aspects of her life, including a grandmother she can’t relate to. During her illness, for some reason she gets an opportunity to explore an old family antique, a desk. Inside, she finds a cut off braid of red hair with evidence of ink stains at the end, and realizes it’s her grandmother’s hair and that Grandma was once a curious, frustrated, spirited kid just like Augusta is now."
