They are promised that they can leave if they pay off their debts, but they are fined for practically everything, so they realize that they will never escape. They plan an escape, but they have to decide whether to cut the arm off someone off to allow him to escape because he is strung up in a shack. There is a mother and a son, or a pregnant mother, and a lot of discussion about stars. They spend a lot of time harvesting crops and there are two separate sleeping quarters. They have to be quiet when making escape plans because they are worried about being overheard."
