Based on your description:

"It was a series book where it takes place at an elementary school in a first person perspective, where the protagonist’s best friend’s name is Susan Lockhart. It had really good illustrations in the middle of the book, but it was black and white. There was this one episode where some girl copied how Susan dressed, so Susan called her a big fat copycat"
