"I’m trying to identify a YA novel I read in an Australian primary school library sometime between 2010 and 2015. The protagonist was a teenage girl with a traumatic or troubled past. She was sent away to live with her aunt, uncle, and several cousins in a beach/coastal town. I remember the cousins sharing a bedroom or sleeping in the same room. The story was quite serious and emotional, not a light romance. The girl falls for an older local surfer boy. One memorable scene involved him surfing in very dangerous stormy conditions or huge waves. I don’t think he was injured. Another scene involved the girl burning belongings from her old life in a metal barrel outside. The ending was hopeful, and I vaguely remember the girl and the boy sitting under a tree talking about the future or next summer. The book may have been Australian, New Zealand, British, or American YA fiction, and was likely published before 2015. It is definitely not Raw Blue by Kirsty Eagar. it was definitely a coastal town. i feel like it was australian idk. the boy was definitely older and i remember drama"
