" I believe they had just moved to a new town due to the fact that the older sister, the main character, had an incident in her youth. I believe she almost fatally wounded another child, I can’t recall why but I want to say in response to being bullying or her sister being bullied, but he almost died and she was socially ostracized. - She doesn’t have a very good relationship with her younger sister, and seems irritated by the fact that the younger sister is often communicating with something in the woods. I can’t recall exactly what, spirits or entities. - The sister goes missing at some point and the older sister is convinced that whatever was in the woods took her, and so she pairs up with a boy she forms a romantic connection with to try and find her sister. - I vividly recall a scene where I believe they’re with other people, specifically another girl, who calls out the main characters past in front of others. - At the end of the book, the main character leaves the boy behind in some kind of altercation to go through a portal to reach her sister. When she finds her sister, the sister tells her that she doesn’t want to go back and the main character leaves without her. - At the end, the boy is hospitalized. The main character tries to visit him, but he won’t talk to her. The protagonist developed cat-like powers Trail that was dangerous if you stepped off of it"
