"A series about children unlocking their magical abilities. I think it was in the YA section. Each book focused on a different POV character from the group of friends. As the series progresses the friends go their seperate ways and each book documents a different character's journey as young adults. The book I remember most clearly was later in the series, I think the title was the female POV character's name and the name of the sea she went sailing across. In it she describes the abuse she survived as a child inwhich the soles of her feet were beaten."
