"the book is about a girl who is 17 at the time it begins and she is about to graduate high school. she lives with her grandmother. her grandmother feeds people in the community but she gets killed. the sheriff of the town lies to the girl about how her grandmother dies. the sheriff or the school she goes to calls child protective services knowing she has no other family around. the girl hides out from child protective services inside her grandmothers house until the sheriff shows up and throws all of her and her grandmothers belongings on the street. the sheriffs son offers her a place to crash and he starts touching her inappropriately while shes sleeping and she WAKES UP FREAKING OUT AND LEAVES. then she sees a guy while shes walking down the street hes riding a motorcycle and passes by her. hes returning to town to take over a mechanic shop his father owns,because his father has become an alcoholic after he lost his wife and son in an accident. the guy left town after his dad attempted to kill him with a machete. the guy is a hit man. the guy lies to child protective services when he tells the lady that he is the girls distant uncle. the guy lives in an apartment above the mechanic shop.the girl moves in with him. they fall in love. the guy has to go out of town to do a hit man job and while hes gone on said job the girl gets brutally beaten and raped by the sheriffs son. someone tells the guy that the girl had an affair while he was gone so he chooses to skip town and abandon the girl. she continues to live in the apartment after hes gone and she finds out she is pregnant. the sheriffs sons mother tries to give the girl money to keep quiet about what her son did to the girl. the girl finds out shes pregnant but she isnt sure who the father is due to the rape. the guys dad and the guys who work at the mechanic shop become family with the girl and the daughter she ends up having. the guy comes back a few years later when his father passes away and tries to be in the girls life again when he sees her at his dads funeral and sees the little girl. the guy finds out the truth of what actually happened when he skipped town when she was raped and he went to the sheriffs house and set fire to his house. the sheriffs son shows up at the girls house threatening her with a shot gun the little girl gets shot. while at the hospital they find out the guy is her biological father. the guy kills the sheriffs son for what he did to the girl and their daughter. the daughter survives."
