"Plot Description: I'm looking for a Chinese crime novel (all Chinese character names, set in China) that I listened to as an audiobook around 2014-2015. It has multiple intertwining storylines told in parallel. One of the storylines: A young man and a young woman (they are NOT a couple — possibly just friends or neighbors) are repeatedly harassed by a local thug/hooligan. During one of these confrontations, the thug comes to cause trouble again, and one of them accidentally kills him with a glass bottle (likely a beer or wine bottle). A retired elderly judge learns about what happened. He feels sympathetic because the two young people are kind-hearted and doesn't want their whole lives ruined because of one moment of desperation against a bad person. So he decides to help them cover up the crime. He goes back to the crime scene and tries to tamper with the evidence by scattering multiple other bottles around to confuse the police investigation. However, because he was rushed for time, he left behind some flaws/inconsistencies. The rest of this storyline follows a cat-and-mouse game between the judge and the police who are investigating the case. Additional details: Multiple storylines running in parallel (I only clearly remember this one) All Chinese names, set in China Available as an audiobook around 2014-2015 The book may have been banned or removed from Chinese internet platforms since then, as I cannot find any trace of it online now Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!"
