"it was a seafaring book, where a young character (who i think is a girl) is forced to navigate a world where the sea has risen significantly, leaving only the western US afloat. She left her house when her father or grandfather (i forgot which one) hung themself with a noose, leaving behind a boat. I think then a large dam broke and flooded the town. They sail for a while, and then at the end, someone (i think her brother) gets sick, so they stop at what i remember as a bandit camp, where someone gets sick and buried in a grave"
