"Have you ever had somebody really see you and name something good in you? This is more than just a blanket offer of encouragement or a passing “Good job!” or “I’m proud of you,” which passes for affirmation these days. This is what I mean by blessing: To bless is to behold something or someone, to tell the story, and to give the good a name. It’s when somebody catches you doing something brave, beautiful, bold, or alive, and they take the time to tell you the story of what they see. They let their own vulnerable wonder show even if they struggle to find the words. A blessing is an active recollection of the delight they felt in seeing you. A blessing nurtures, grows, shapes, and affirms. It helps some part of you become more fully alive. It can be a little frightening when someone blesses us like this. It sometimes makes us want to pull away because to truly receive a blessing is to accept that there is glory in us. In the blessing, we are called to own in a deeper way the goodness and beauty within ourselves. Every blessing come with a calling, some charge to live it out or foster it. "
