Guess the Book

Two displaced migrant laborers during the Great Depression wander through California searching for work with the hope of one day owning their own land. One is a sharp-witted man who looks after his physically powerful but mentally disabled companion, whose unintentional strength leads to a tragic accident on a ranch.
