Guess the Book

A middle school science teacher wakes up from a long coma on an interstellar vessel with no memory of his identity or why he is there. He soon realizes he is the lone survivor of a desperate mission to save his home star from a light-draining parasite, only to find he is not the only species in the system searching for a solution.
