Guess the Book

Growing up in Kabul, a privileged boy fails to intervene when his loyal companion and servant is brutally assaulted in an alley. Years later, living as an immigrant in California, he receives a phone call that offers a dangerous chance to return to his war-torn homeland and atone for his cowardice.
